The first proper Metal Gear Online Expansion pack is due out on the 17th July which includes a whole array of great add-ons such as new characters and new maps. Also introduced is a new "Rewards system" from which in the new survival mode you can earn reward points and spend them in the reward shop. You'll also get an extra character slot with this package.
From the official Konami site

Characters:
Meryl Silverburgh

The positions of enemies she shoots and enemies targeting her are visually shared with other team members through the SOP system.
Meryl will raise the spirits of teammates nearby to help them recover Psyche.
She can also help unconscious teammates get up faster.
Meryl excels with the Handgun Skill, which reduces recoil when firing handguns and decreases reload time.

All traps in the stage will be displayed on his screen.
Press the △ button to disarm surrounding traps and turn them into items.
* Please note that the above Characters cannot be freely selected. They will be randomly allocated to a player taking part in a game in which their use has been enabled. * The Expansion Pack will also allow you to buy and increase Character slots up to a maximum of 8.
Survival"mode and the Reward Shop"
Reward Points you earn by playing "Survival" mode can be spent at the all new Reward Shop where you will be able to exchange them for all sorts of gear! They can be equipped onto your characters in other game modes too! Set yourself apart from the crowd!
* The "METAL GEAR ONLINE GENE EXPANSION PLUS" comes with an MGO Extra Character Slot. Have you ever wanted to create a female Character but felt reluctant as you would have to delete your current one? Then this is the Expansion Pack just for you!
Metal Gear Solid 4 has achieved an impressive 2.06 million (according to VGChartz.com) in it's first 3 weeks. The title has sold the most in European regions which will likely be the first place to reach one million.
Along with that good news, Famitsu are reporting that Metal Gear Solid 4 has entered the Japanese "Top Selling Games of 2008" chart at number 6 with an impressive 576,437 copies sold.
According to VGChartz, Metal Gear Solid 4 has sold and impressive 1.3 Million copies worldwide on it's first day. It's first week however is yet to be reported (because it's not over yet) but you can expect some pretty good numbers.
It's 12:02am here in the UK, meaning June 12th is finally here. If you were one of the lucky lot that got their copies early (I was, its fanastic!) then you've likely played a lot of it and know how amazing it is. For those at the midnight launches, don't forget to take lots of pictures! We'd love to see some. If you do get any please post them on the forums or send them into us via email.
Hopefully everyone else who has preordered MGS4 will get their copies tomorrow! After playing for 10 hours, I've got to say that it's well worth the wait.
It looks as though Play.com are sending out some copies of Metal Gear Solid 4 early. After being posted only yesterday, two of my friends have received their Limited Editions from ParcelForce this morning, as mine is said to be "Out for delivery", which according to the ParcelForce site means that it will be arriving sometime today. All of these early orders appear to be the Play.com Exclusive Limited Edition, so if you've ordered a normal one from Play you may or may not get it today. Got yours already? Let us know!
GameTrailers have posted some new, HD gameplay videos of Metal Gear Solid 4. The areas shown are all from the middle east, and include "Rat Patrol Gameplay", "MK.II Gameplay" and "Enemy Evasion Gameplay".
Please note that the player is god-awful, and this isn't really representative of the game.
Potential spoilers for anyone seriously avoiding them, but it's nothing to do with the main storyline. If you had any doubt on whether or not MGS4 is PS3 exclusive, I'm sure this clears it up pretty nicely.
Update: Looks like YouTube removed the video, so here it is from GT this time.
Here is another trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots from the latest issue of Famitsu. It doesn't show anything new, so its spoiler-free for anyone who has been trying to avoid any spoilers. It also shows a lot of remade footage that was shown at E3 2006.
Another perfect score for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots this time for PLAYER. Both PLAYER and Playr2 are being shown on Bravo 2, Sky Channel 154. You can see the review on PLAYER (which shows no footage that hasnt been in trailers) and you can also see the entire Laughing Octopus boss fight on Playr2 if you so choose. The review will likely be shown a few times throughout the day and will probably be recorded some time soon.
